The Division of International and Development leads QUT's outreach. It does so through its attention to three key areas: Leadership in International, Community Engagement and Educational Opportunity.

Leadership in International

In fulfilling its leadership objective, QUT International plays a proactive role in generating and disseminating intelligence to inform decision-making about QUT's international engagement and obligations. QUT International provides quality advice to International Policy and Strategy Committee to guide strategic direction decision-making and provides specific, high-quality advice to faculties and others in the University community, to guide decisions at that level with a view to enhancing the University's capacity to make prudent choices about our international engagement.

QUT International works with all faculties and divisions in order to continue to grow international student numbers at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. QUT International leads marketing and recruitment activity, market development, manages protocol and incoming visits, including visits from study abroad and exchange students, manages relationships with agents and monitors their contracts, and serves as the central point for the establishment and management of the University's international relations as expressed in various memoranda of understanding/agreements.

The Development Office works with QUT International in the area of external relations and alumni, gathering intelligence, maintaining contact and working through and with QUT communities wherever in the world they are located.

The QUT International College has a particular role to play in international through its business operations. The QUT Precincts also offers opportunities to connect with international communities in innovative ways, including through shared installations and partnerships as well as hosting events, exhibitions and performances that extend and enhance engagement with other cultures.

Leadership in Community Engagement

The Development Office provides advice and expertise in the areas of fundraising and external relations. Maintaining an accurate database of external contacts for the University is a prime task in this area. In addition, the Office takes responsibility as the unit charged with leading and coordinating QUT's recognition of outstanding individuals by nominating such folk for local, national and international awards and honours.

Alumni relations continues to be an important focus of activity wthin the Office. Growing the active engagement of alumni is an investment in the University's future and provides appropriate recognition and respect for QUT alumni. The Development Office builds relationships with key stakeholders vital to building a culture of philanthropy at QUT.

The Development Office also takes responsibility for QUT's broader community engagement activity and implementing QUT's community engagement strategy.

QUT Precincts, the Gardens Cultural Precinct and the Creative Industries Precinct provide a unique opportunity for QUT to engage with the community. These sites of activity offer the opportunity of effecting a community interface on campus, and in a distributed way, through technology applied to various Precinct sites and activities. The redevelopment of Old Government House is a priority for the University, managed and coordinated as an essential part of the Gardens Cultural Precinct.

QUT International plays a role in international community engagement activities at home and abroad through the provision of advice and support, as required.

Leadership through Educational Opportunity

The QUT International College has a critical leadership role by providing revenue to support the continued operations of the College and for the University directly from time-to-time. This business operation is charged with providing a significant pathway for international students to progress to QUT award programs. New infrastructure means that QUT International College is now well placed to give better effect to its educational mission.

Other parts of the Division also have a role to play in this area. For QUT International, management of support for QUT students to undertake student exxhanges remains important. The Development Office is crucially involved in the development of scholarships and bursaries to provide targeted opportunities for particular students at QUT and the Precincts ensures that the exhibition, performance and event venues across both Precincts are used in support of the University's educational missions.
